The Atkins waffle
Waffles are a no-no for the Atkins dieters, as are carbs in general. Up to a few months ago, those on the diet were not given any limits on saturated fats or read meat they could eat. But Atkins has apparently waffled on this, now advising that people should limit the amount of saturated fat and red meat they consume. The change is apparently a somewhat delayed recognition of the adverse criticism the diet has received over the years from health professionals. Critics aren't entirely satisfied with the changes, however, saying that total fat in the revised diet is much higher than currently advised by doctors and nutritionists. In fact, in the Atkins diet 60 percent of the calories are still derived from fat, and that's twice the level recommended by the U.S. Agriculture Department. Even worse, the Atkins diet contains twice the level of saturated fat recommended by the department. More waffles, Ma?
